BUILDING COMMUNITY GARDENS

Community Gardens bring people together to become part of a collective community with the primary goal of growing vegetables. Community gardens offer families and individuals without land of their own the opportunity to produce food, while providing a place for gardeners to share knowledge and skills.

There are many benefits to having a community garden

  • Promotes physical fitness and health

  • Provides access to fresh nutritious food

  • Builds a sense of community and belonging

  • Individuals acquire knowledge and expertise

  • Improves the urban environment by diversifying the use of open space and creating the opportunity for passive and active recreation

  • Improves the natural environment, The diversity of plant types found in community gardens provide habitats for urban wildlife

Urban Food Garden can work with your local council or community to create and design a community garden. We will work together and engage the local community. A detailed plan will be created and customised according to the space available, and to suit the climate. These may include, but are not limited to, Vegetable Plants, Fruit Plants, Herb Plants, Glass Houses, Garden Beds, Hen Houses, Bee Hives, Rainwater Tanks, Irrigation Solutions, Energy Solutions, Compost and Earth Worms and Garden Art.

We also work with councils with their waste management strategies to turn their unwanted waste into prosperous edible food gardens.
